Breast Cancer Hawaii's (BCH’s) is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit that curates helpful resources for local breast cancer patients and survivors, as well as provides support through collective community. A few of BCH’s key offerings include:
The Resource Library: A hub of resources related to breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.
CARE Closet: A program to connect breast cancer patients in treatment with new and gently used treatment support equipment such as wedge pillows, wigs, shower chairs, books, and hobby supplies.
Hearts for Ohana: A program to support the whole family–especially children–in which a parent has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

After surviving breast cancer in 2015, Joanne founded Breast Cancer Hawaii to help other women navigate the difficult and enduring battle against breast cancer. Today, Joanne continues to devote much of her energy running BCH and is involved in cancer advocacy efforts both locally and nationally. As a trained patient advocate, she also volunteers with the Young Survival Coalition and Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Locally, she serves on the UH Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office Patient Advocacy Committee, Susan G. Komen Race Committee, and Hawaii Young Healthcare Professional's Leadership Team.
